The Lone Star Chapter of the Society of American Period Furniture Makers held it's quarterly meeting on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at R. J. Simpson, Inc., maker and conservator of fine furniture.  Our host and new SAPFM member was Christopher Simpson.

Chris presented an excellent, very detailed program on the fine art of finishing mahogany and obtaining that antique look.  He covered preparing the surface, grain filling with a mixture of rottenstone and french lac,  staining and coloring, sealing the stain, the use of glazes to acheive an old antique appearance and finally demonstrated french polishing.  Attendance was great at this most informative meeting and note taking was fast and furious.  After the presentation, Chris answered all of our questions about finishing.  Great job!!

A special thanks to Chris for not only sharing his finishing secrets but for providing the group with a fantastic lunch!
