Greetings fellow woodworkers,
I'd like to share the plans for our upcoming Indiana chapter meeting on Saturday, November 16th at 9:30.
Our meeting will be hosted at Conner Prairie, a living history museum just north of Indianapolis. Many thanks to historical craftsman Henry Raab for graciously agreeing to host us.
Please RSVP to David Bowes by November 10th.
Directions:
- Conner Prairie: 13400 Allisonville Road, Fishers, IN 46038
- We'll be in Conner Prairie's modern woodworking shop
- Directions: Enter the property through the main drive on Allisonville Road, take the first right turn, and follow the drive back through a gate to the Blacksmith Shop, a long wood-sided building with a green roof. Please park in the Blacksmith Shop lot and then walk through the breezeway, cross the access road, and enter the fenced-in lot behind the white building. There will be clear signs directing members to the woodshop door.
Logistics:
- Chairs provided - No need to bring your own.
- The “Show and Tell” is an ice breaker. Please bring anything you would like to show off. If you have a special piece, a project, or even a jig, please bring them. For those who haven’t attended a previous meeting, this is a quick introduction, a display of your skills, interests, projects both past and present, jig, etc.
Unless you want to bring something different, this meeting’s show and tell theme is tool chests, tool boxes, and tool storage. Send David Bowes a photo ahead of time or bring in your favorite means to store or transport your tools.
- There is still time to volunteer to present. Please let me know if you have a project, technique, or historical overview you would like to share.
- Lunch will be sandwiches & chips from Jimmy John’s. Please bring $10-15 in cash.
- For those presenting, there will be two traditional workbenches, a large assembly table, and a large TV to present from
Meeting Agenda:
- Get settled, chapter business, and Show and Tell
- Member Demos:
- David Michaels - Building the apron for a demilune table, including considerations for using hot hide glue and a demonstration of brick-building a 3-level curved apron using hot hide glue and veneering the face board to the apron
- Dave Knuth - Review of Dave’s Bombe Chest project
- Henry Raab - Demonstration on making traditional shop-made measuring tools
- David Bowes - French-inspired Newport serpentine front chests
Kind regards from the Indiana Chapter Planning Committee,
David Bowes, Dave Redlin, Dave Knuth, & Henry Raab
