Goddard Corner Chair

I am looking for plans or sufficient photos to construct plans for a Goddard Corner Chair.  From my research John Goddard constructed two chairs for the Brown family.  It is these chairs I am most interested.

Would anyone have any information on this?

George Slack (www.GeorgeSlack.com) will be teaching a course next year reproducing a John Goddard corner chair. There is a picture of the chair on his website. He may have the info you're looking for.

Unfortunately George does not offer any plans or photos.  He will be offering classes on building  the chair late next year.  I will not be able to attend.

Thanks for the lead in any case.

Fred; I assume you are THE F. Stanley I know! (give us a little more info in your member summary!)
Look at Jeffery Greene's web site; theballandclaw.com and click on chairs. He has 2 beautiful Goddard corner chairs; one of which he says is a copy of an original in the Brown Mansion in Providence.
Hope this helps. John McAlister

Fred?,

I have a Sotheby's auction catalog dated January 22, 2005 that advertises  the pair of Goddard roundabout chairs made for Nicholas Brown.  These chairs are  nearly identical to  John Brown's but they have 3 claw and ball feet and the back leg is a pad foot.  The scrolled knuckle terminals are also different.  There are 13 pics with some being excellent close-ups.  There's also some great text giving overall measurements I'll gladly loan it to you if you're interested in it.

John, I am not "THE" F. Stanley, I am just the plain ole Southwest Virginia Fred Stanley who had the privilege to meet you in Williamsburg in 2006.

The chair shown on the Greene website is the chair I was hoping to find plans for.

Chairs are always a challenge for me unless I have access to the piece or good plans.  I don't thing Jeffrey Greene sells the plans but I will check.

Fred, Glad I got the right one and glad to see you using the Forum. As the 2006 Cartouche awardee you've got a lot to offer.
I'm not sure Jeff Greene would sell his plans to anybody. I doubt it.  He was a huge help to me when I was building a six shell secretary 15/16 years ago but that was mostly one on one; and we never discussed plans.  I never asked for any; he never offered any! But that was back then. Good luck. John McA.

In case you still need some plans, I have templates I used about 7-8 years ago to reproduce the John Brown chair as photographed in Sack's Treasury Volume II. I am going to begin a second one in a few months and would be happy to share the templates.

Regarding Goddard corner chairs- Sothebys hired me to copy the Goddard family chairs for the family after they sold the originals. I measured them and made patterns and templates, etc. I plan on making plans available. Call 603-749-6231 or e-mail breeds@comcast .net for info-Al

Al:

I am interested in the plans for the Goddard chair.  I did email breeds@comcast .net a couple of times, but so far no reply.  Has your email changed?

Thanks, Dale

Al,  I too would be interested in purchasing a copy of the Goddard corner chair plans.  How much are they and when are they available?
Thanks
Scott

Scott- I'll have them in 5 or 6 weeks. I have all the info, I just need to make it legible. Don't know price yet. I'll post them on my site allanbreed.com-Al

Hi Al, I just checked out your website and it looks like you really expanded it with a lot of features. Looks good.
John

Thanks, John. That 20 bucks will be in today's mail.
Yes, it's completely new. You can set up your own page with photos. etc. Put some of your great stuff up there so we can all check it out-Al
