On Saturday, November 16th, The Great Lakes Chapter held it's Fall Meeting. There were 20 attendees and except for a few technical issues everything went well. I'd like to thank Bill Silvis and Doug Moulder for their presentations and David Boeff for his show and tell contribution. Dennis Heyza and David Feola updated the Chapter about the health of the national SAPFM organization. For much more information about the meeting, see Dale Ausherman's report in the upcoming Pins and Tales.
Our Spring meeting has been set for March 29, 2025 at Sam Beauford. The agenda will include the subjects of marquetry, hammer veneering, cock beading and French polishing. We are in need of presenters for a cock beading and French polishing. If you are willing to do either of these, please contact me. The Chapter is exploring venues in the Detroit area for upcoming meetings to try to entice some of our Detroit area members to attend meetings. Any input that you may have about this would be welcome.
A discussion of our past events at the Detroit Institutes of Arts was held and the possibility of resuming those activities was talked about. A committee was formed to explore the subject. They have contacted the DIA and there seems to be quite a bit of interest in scheduling an event. Before we proceed, we would like to gauge the interest of GLC members in participating in demonstrations, exhibiting examples of member made items and supplying kits for assembly by youth attending. Please reply if you would be willing to help out with this. Past events were very gratifying to attend.
Please let me know if you have any other comments or suggestions.
