dovetailing a veneered drawer

I plan to dovetail a veneered drawer with a plywood substrate. How do I prevent the plywood from being visable where the dovetailed drawer sides meet the plywood substrate? Could I glue walnut to each end of the substrate or would this be telegraphed through the veneer? The veneer is walnut

I glue a solid strip, about 3/4" thick on all four plywood edges. Miter the corners. Then you will be dovetailling into solid wood.  If you have a good joint and completely flatten the joint it will not telegraph through the veneer. Mike Siemson knows more than I'll ever know about good practices, but a mitered dovetail intimidates me!

John you could make mitered dovetails with your eyes closed. If you don't like the mitered than make the blind lap. Practice on scrap, it is a good warm up exercise before you start your shop day.
