The Fall 2011 Chesapeake Regional Chapter Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 12th, 2011 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM at the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.  The featured speaker will be Charles Bender from the Acanthus Workshop.
Details of the Agenda will be forthcoming by the middle of October.

Reserve the date on your calendar.

We're pleased to announce that the next Chesapeake SAPFM Regional Chapter meeting is now open for registration.  The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 10:00AM - 3:00PM at the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) Mid-town Campus in Harrisburg, PA.

Pre-registration is required, so please RSVP to me at [email protected] (delete the "DELETEME" from that address).  There will be a fee of $25.00 to cover meeting costs including lunch & refreshments which will be collected during sign-in (10:00-10:30) on the day of the meeting.

We have an exciting agenda planned with our featured speaker being Charles (Chuck) Bender.  No stranger to this forum, Chuck has over 30 years experience in building high quality reproduction furniture, writing articles for popular publications, developing instructional DVDs, and running the highly successful Acanthus Workshop.  He will share with us his personal perspective on "The Good, Bad and Ugly of Furniture Design," provide demonstrations of joinery techniques learned through his study of period pieces, and describe instruction methods applied in his Acanthus Workshop.

Besides a very short business meeting, the agenda will include time for introductions, socializing, a member Tool Exchange, as well as one or two short topic discussion still under consideration.  We will get things started with a member Show & Tell, a very popular portion of our last (and first!) meeting. Show & Tell will only work if members are willing to show off their work, so please consider what you can bring to present to the rest of the group.

Further details/instructions:

- You must RSVP and pre-register with me via email before the meeting so that we can plan for the appropriate volume for refreshments/lunch and prepare name tags. Please let me know that you're responding to the forum announcement, so I'll understand that I need to send map/directions.  Last minute cancellations prior to the day of the meeting are fine, but please do give me as much notice as possible.

- Plan to bring any woodworking related items (hand tools, jigs, magazines, DVDs, etc.) that you would like to offer for sale in the Tool Exchange. Tables or workbenches will be set up for the member Tool Exchange.

- Tables or workbenches will be set up for our Member Show & Tell.  Plan to bring any completed project, favorite tools, or other items that would be of interest to other members and plan to briefly comment on it during the Show & Tell session.

- If anyone has any short announcements about upcoming events that they would like to have publicized at the meeting, email the details to Bert Bleckwenn ([email protected]) (again, delete the "DELETEME" from the address) so he can reserve a slot on the agenda for announcements.  Flyers of any announcements are welcome as well.

- Bring along a friend or spouse who is interested in joining SAPFM and our new regional chapter.  There are no dues for belonging to our regional chapter - the only requirement is that you must belong to the national SAPFM organization (but exceptions will be made for first-time participants).  SAPFM brochures will be available should any of our "guests" choose to register for the national SAPFM organization.

We're looking forward to hosting another exciting day for our Chesapeake SAPFM Chapter.

Whoops - I had a mistake in my email addressed (fixed now in my post above).  I've also emailed you, Jeff.  Thanks.

This is a final notice that we're holding our meeting on Saturday.  I've emailed directions, agenda, and other materials to all who have told me they will be attending.  If you're missing any of that material, please let me know ASAP.  We could still accommodate more participants, so it's not too late to change your RSVP.

Great meeting guys.  Thanks to Bert and Mark for spearheading this event.  It was a great time and so far this chapter is setting the bar pretty high with speakers.  Can't wait for the next one in April.

Thanks, Shannon.  Alan Garner and Kari Hultman handled most of the meeting logistics, and are responsible for finding the meeting facility.  Alan leveraged his relationships to find a facility that was available at no cost to us, which kept our meeting fee as low as possible.  Regarding the presenters: I have been impressed at the favorable response Bert invariably receives to his invitations to featured presenters.  I think that's as much a reflection of SAPFM's reputation as it is of the presenters' generosity with their time.

I'll try to get a meeting summary up later this week.  Bloggers should feel free to beat me to the punch.
