Brass for hardware?

I'm working on a design for a new project and I'd like to make my decorative brass hardware.  I've read that the 300 series of brass is the most appropriate for machining, but I can only find it in 1/16 thickness. That's a little thick for what I want to do.  I've read that the 260 or shell/cartridge brass is not good for machining.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tony

I am going to attempt to make some corner brackets and such.  I was looking for something that was not too thick and suitable for machining.  I found a knife making supply place that sells what I was looking for.  I just received a couple of pieces to play with.  We'll see what happens!  I haven't designed the hardware yet, so I haven't started cutting brass.  I'm a little slow - this work thing tends to be quite bothersome to my recreational pursuits!
