The Blue Ridge Chapter invites you to our next meeting, 9:00 AM on10 May 2025 at the auction gallery of Jeffrey S. Evans and Associates in Mt. Crawford, Virginia. Jeff and his wife Beverley have agreed to host our meeting in their auction gallery followed by a tour of their private collection in their historic home in nearby Broadway, Virginia. Doors open at 8:30 AM. Registration is limited to 35 attendees.

As a bonus, 10 persons may register separately to visit the shop and home of Shenandoah Valley furniture maker and restorer, David “Ray” Pine from 3:30 to 5:00 PM on Friday, 9 May. FULL – Wait List Only.

For those coming a long distance, I recommend spending Friday evening in the area. Harrisonburg, VA is convenient to all venues and there are numerous hotels and B&Bs in the area. My cousin and I are staying two nights in a historic inn in Dayton, VA (fully booked).

PLEASE RESPOND BY 4 MAY BY USING THE “RSVP” LINK BELOW. Be sure to select the SUBMIT button at the end of the RSVP.

NOTE:
You will receive your answers to the RSVP at the e-mail address you enter in the form. You will be able to edit your response before the meeting if your plans change.

All questions on the form must be answered. If you indicate that you are NOT attending at either venue, you must also write “NA” for the names of the attendees for that venue.

ADDRESSES for all venues are at the end of this e-mail.

SAVE THE DATE: The subsequent chapter meeting will be 22 November in the Richmond area with demonstrations in the morning and a tour of another noteworthy private collection of Southern Furniture in the afternoon. You will learn more about this at our 10 May meeting. If you have something you would like to demonstrate or present, please let me know.

JEFF EVANS: Specializing in Southern decorative arts, Shenandoah Valley furniture in particular, Jeff is best known for his nearly $1 million sale of the Johannes Spitler hanging cupboard with leaping stag, which set the record at the time for American folk-art paint-decorated Southern furniture. He has handled some of the Nation’s finest collections of period furniture from all regions. Ironically, the famous Spitler cupboard went on display at Historic Trappe after our visit during SAPFM’s annual conference last summer!

Jeff will give a presentation based on his deep expertise with Shenandoah Valley period furniture.

RAY PINE: Next, after an interview with Valley furniture maker and restorer, David “Ray” Pine, to cover his background and body of work, Ray will discuss his construction of a set of chairs he made for the Virginia Governor’s Mansion. Additionally, Ray will present his collection of shop-made tools, both ones he made as well as antique examples.

EVANS HOME: Following lunch, we will drive 30 minutes to the Evans’ home, a meticulously restored early German stone farmhouse, for a tour of their substantial personal collection, replete with unique 18th and early 19th Century Valley furniture. This is a rare opportunity to visit a significant private collection in a historical homestead.

SHOW AND SHARE: We may have time available for other brief show and tell presentations. If you're interested in presenting an item, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, [email protected] or 540.907.9137 (leave a VM and I’ll call you back).
