Good morning everyone,
For your use, following is the agenda as well as details for our Chapter meeting April 27th. If you haven't already indicated that you'll attend but want to, please respond to me (Jim Francis, [email protected]) by April 15th. Also, please indicate whether you will attend both the Berkeley Plantation tour and meeting, or just the meeting.

The charge for the meeting will be determined after the attendee count is obtained. However, because of the good level of interest, I'm hoping the charge will be around $20 per person to cover the meeting room rental and costs/honoraria for Steve and Ray.

Feel free to invite potential members, friends and family to the meeting. The tour as well as Steve's and Ray's presentations will make for a great Saturday. Also, if you're working on a German influenced painted piece or corner chair feel free to bring them along with your questions and issues.

Agenda
Berkeley Plantation Tour:
  • 8:15-9:00 AM: Assemble at the Plantation parking lot. See Note (1) below for directions, and Note (2) for tour payment. I'll bring drinks and snacks, in case you missed breakfast.
  • 9:00-9:30: Introductory film
  • 9:30-10:15: Guided house tour
  • 10:15-10:45: Self-guided museum, gardens/grounds, and exhibits following house tour.
Travel:
  • 10:45-11:30: Proceed to James City County Library Kitzinger Room (7770 Croaker Road, Williamsburg). The trip is approximately 33 miles/45 minutes. I apologize for the need to travel; the cost for a meeting room closer to the Plantation drove the decision.
Lunch:
  • 11:30-12:15. Lunch on your own. See Note (3) for a short list of restaurants fairly close to the library.
Meeting:
12:15 to 5 PM
  • Welcome, introductions, Mid-Year Conference (Collegeville, PA - June 28 to July 1st) notes.
  • Steve Dietrich - German folk art painting on furniture in Germany and America.
  • Ray Journigan (2018 Cartouche recipient) - Newport Corner chair (history, design, construction, carving). This presentation will also include his apprentice/journeymen builders of this chair sharing their issues/lessons learned.
  • Closing; meeting comments, thoughts on fall Chapter meeting.
Details and Notes:
  1. Berkeley Plantation is located approximately halfway between Richmond and Williamsburg, just off Route 5. See this link for directions: https://berkeleyplantation.com/directions/.
  2. Cost for the tour is $12. Pay at the Plantation gift shop.
  3. Williamsburg restaurants fairly close to the James City County Library (all casual):
  • Two Drummers BBQ; 8864 Richmond Road, Toano
  • Huntsman's Grill; 561 East Rochambeau Road
  • New York Deli and Pizza; 6546 Richmond Road
  • Colonial Heritage Restaurant; 6800 Arthur Hills Drive
  • Pierce's BBQ; 447 East Rochambeau Road
That's all for now. Thanks for your time and support. For questions or issues, feel free to contact me,
Jim Francis
