SAPFM is marking the passing of one of its longest tenured and for many years most active members, Jim Conley.

Jim and his wife Ellen were enthusiastic participants in SAPFM from the earliest years. We all looked for them at Williamsburg and the midyears. As the Virginia, later Blue Ridge, Chapter launched, Jim could be counted on as a participant and presenter. Jim also presented at his son's chapter (David was a founder of the Ohio River Valley Chapter, the very first regional chapter) and the Peach State Chapter. When Jim and Ellen hosted a Virginia Chapter meeting at their home he gave us all a chance to glimpse his other passion, British sports cars. His restoration of those cars was as exacting as his woodworking.

Jim's craftsmanship was exceptional and his presentations, particularly on Chippendale design and construction, supported by meticulously drawn plans, reflected his enthusiasm and careful research. These talks were always delivered in Jim's soft, melodious, slightly southern voice and with his ready smile. It was always a pleasure to listen to him and learn from him, but more, it was a privilege to be around Jim and Ellen and enjoy their company. We will all miss Jim and SAPFM is the poorer for his absence.
